Buying a Used Propane Forklift: What to Check

  • Hours: compare hour meter readings across units. Engine hours tell you more about wear than the model year.

  • Mast: check that the lift height reaches your top beam and that the lowered mast clears your doorways and trailers.
  • Propane system: check the tank bracket, hoses and regulator, and ask when the engine was last tuned up.
  • Capacity: match the rated capacity to your heaviest load. Adding an attachment lowers the rated capacity.
